Networks
An all digital workflow supports efficient collaborations and data sharing across computer platforms. It offers users many ways of accessing the network, including wireless access. The key criteria for network performance are speed, stability and security. A network’s capacity depends on the hardware used including the network cards in the computer, the routers which work out the best route between multiple networks, and the hubs which is where data arrives from multiple sources and gets sent elsewhere to one or many destinations. The hardware is crucially important, right down to the type of cable used. In this chapter we will highlight some of the criteria to take into account when setting up and maintaining a network.
