Level 2 Print Operative Trailblazer, BPIF need your input

Level 2 Print Operative Trailblazer, BPIF need your input

In May 2019, BPIF secured full and final approval for the Level 3 print technician standard and many apprentices are now enrolled on this standard.

Following on from much discussion with Government, in July 2020, BPIF received confirmation that the employer-led submission to develop a new apprenticeship standard for a Level 2 print operative had been successful.

This new standard follows the same format as the print technician and will be a core Level 2 print standard with three options i.e. pre-press operative, press operative and post press operative.

Working with the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) we have now started to build the content for this new standard. Core to this standard are a list of duties, which are effectively a job description and a list of the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours (KSBs) which we would want a successful apprentice to have.

Everyone has worked hard to ensure that we have a statement that is written in clear and simple language, carefully chosen so that all new and potential apprentices and their families are able to understand what is involved in these roles.

Ursula Daly, Programme Director at the BPIF says, 'We now need your input to ensure that we have the right standard for our industry. The Level 2 Print Operative is intended to be the number 2, the assistant and as such plays an important role in our industry. This level 2 reflects a large number of workers in print, often the backbone of the factory and it is important that we get this right and that is why we need you to provide us with your input.'
