Tradeprint Hosts Local MP Chris Law, Showcasing Expansion and Discussing Industry Challenges

Dundee, 25th January 2024 – Tradeprint, a leading provider of print solutions, was proud to welcome local MP Chris Law to its recently expanded facility in Dundee. This visit marked a significant milestone for the company, which has doubled its operational space from 20,000 to 40,000 square feet and invested in state-of-the-art printing machinery, including a Heidelberg LED UV offset press.

During his tour, Chris Law MP saw the scale of Tradeprint's operations and the impact of its continued investment in the city. This expansion not only signifies a commitment to advancing print technology but also plays a crucial role in job retention, job creation and skills development within the local community.

Addressing the Path to Net Zero by 2040

In alignment with Tradeprint’s commitment to sustainability, the discussion with Chris Law highlighted the company’s pathway to achieving net zero emissions by 2040. Tradeprint are currently exploring various funding pots and grants available for sustainable development, including government incentives and green finance options.

Impact of Rising Energy Costs and Legislation

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the print industry, particularly in the context of rising energy costs. With these costs significantly impact manufacturing processes, Tradeprint are seeking innovative solutions to mitigate this. Additionally, the implications of new legislation, such as the Plastic Packaging Tax, EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), were addressed.

Minimum Wage and Employment Dynamics

Tradeprint's commitment to its workforce was also a key topic of discussion. The company recognises the challenges businesses face meeting the minimum wage increases and Tradeprint has had to find ways to absorb those costs.  Cross training and developing skills and investing in automation has helped to offset those costs. The company continues to adapt its business model to ensure a fair and motivating working environment for all staff.

A Future-Oriented Vision

Hosting Chris Law MP was not only an opportunity to showcase Tradeprint’s recent advancements and growth but also a platform to discuss the future of the printing industry nationally and its role in the local economy of Dundee. The business will be grateful for his support and interest in the challenges the industry faces, and looks forward to continuing its dialogue with local leaders to develop a more sustainable, innovative and resilient print sector.

Chris Law, Member of Parliament for Dundee West, said:

“It was fantastic to be able to join Tradeprint for a tour of their expanded facility and a discussion about the improvements they are making on sustainability.

Tradeprint are a real Dundee success story, with a dedication to high-quality local jobs and a sense of innovation which will serve them well as they strive to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040,

I look forward to working with them in the future to address issues and challenges facing the wider printing industry.”
