TechGirls come to the front of the class for Konica Minolta’s Ada Lovelace Day

Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) Ltd has welcomed the next generation of technology specialists to its Girls in Tech event at the company’s Client Engagement Centre (CEC) in Houghton Regis in Bedfordshire. Held in partnership with TechGirls, Year 8 students from local schools marked Ada Lovelace Day, an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).     

Ada Lovelace Day aims to increase the profile of women in STEM and, in doing so, create new role models who will encourage more girls into STEM careers, whilst supporting women already working in these sectors. As part of the TechGirls community, Konica Minolta has delivered workshops to girls across the UK and this event aimed to support students who are about to decide their GCSE Options and encourage them to think about career paths towards STEM sectors. 

Commenting on the event, Gillian Nuttall, People and Culture ESG Partner at Konica Minolta Business Solutions (UK) Ltd said, “The tech industry continues to face challenges with female representation, and this event is one way we can address this by showcasing the vibrant and dynamic opportunities within the sector.” 

Utilising Konica Minolta’s rich heritage in print technology at its recently opened state-of-the-art CEC, students were tasked with creating a poster that promotes and inspires women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and maths. The posters were then designed and printed using Konica Minolta’s devices.  

Konica Minolta passionately supports increasing diversity in the tech industry, with a broader commitment to promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion every day. This includes a clear focus on four key targets to achieve by 2030 - reducing the Gender Pay Gap to zero; ensuring that succession opportunities at all levels across the business are gender equal; ensuring 50% of new hires are women; and that 50% of the people in leadership positions are women. 

Konica Minolta also ensures learning and development opportunities are in place for its leaders and all employees on inclusion. The company supports Employee Resource groups, including 'Balance' for gender, and policies are in place such as family leave and enhanced leave, as well as choice-based working, to ensure suitability for the widest range of employee needs. Konica Minolta also works in partnerships with like-minded organisations to drive broader change - such as its activities with TechGirls.
