Victor Watson Trophy

Victor Watson Trophy

Charles Jarrold marked the beginning of a new chapter in the Victor Watson Trophy. The Trophy was initiated in 2014 by Robert McClements with support of the BPIF who administered the competition for its awarding, the Printing Charity who invited the winner to apply for one of their £1500 bursaries and the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards – Victor was a former Master.

The Trophy was initiated in memory of Victor Watson CBE, a major figure in the world of print. Former President of the BPIF and the Printing Charity his impact as an innovator and supporter of young people led to the award being made to a young person from our industry who had shown to be an outstanding individual and was presented annually by the BPIF at the House of Lords. A further presentation was made with Victor’s family on Yorkshire Day to mark his Yorkshire roots.

The Trophy was returned by Charles Jarrold to the Makers of Playing Cards at their Autumn Livery Dinner at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall to be taken forward in perpetuity by the company.

Thanks must be given to the Watson family, especially Victor’s brother John Watson who has been instrumental in the facilitation of all aspects of the trophy’s development.
