THINK PUBLISHING JOINS THE CARBON BALANCED PAPER PROGRAMME
CarbonCo is delighted to announce that Think Publishing has joined The Carbon Balanced Paper programme. As the UK’s leading publisher of magazines and digital content for membership organisations, Think works with brands such as the Chartered Management Institute, National Trust for Scotland and Campaign for Real Ale.
From 1 January 2025, Think will carbon balance 29 of its print titles through the Carbon Balanced Paper scheme, reinforcing its strong environmental credentials that have been in place since the company was founded 25 years ago. As signatories to the PPA Path to Net Zero action plan, Think aims to become net zero by 2050.
“We agreed to join the Carbon Balanced Paper programme as it allows us to balance a huge amount of our current unavoidable emissions, namely those created when producing magazine papers,” explained Justin Masters, Production Director of Think Publishing. “The programme offers the perfect solution to do this, with its reliable and trusted research and ethical approach to forest protection and preservation.”
Through Carbon Balanced Paper, Think is able to take direct action to mitigate a large proportion of its current operational impacts, positively impacting its own carbon footprint. Its clients will also benefit from promoting their magazines as ‘Carbon Balanced Paper’, clearly demonstrating their commitment to the environment. The Carbon Balanced Paper logo will be printed in Think’s publications.
“Our readers are very conscious of carbon emissions and look for positive progress,” said Masters. “New clients want to work with organisations that have clear eco-credentials, so this initiative works for us on several levels.”
“We are thrilled that Think has joined the Carbon Balanced Paper programme and community,” said Paul Opie, Partnership Director of CarbonCo. “Their commitment to sustainability is embedded as a pillar of their business, which makes a measurable difference as we transition to a low-carbon economy. We really look forward to continuing to support them on their carbon reduction journey.”
Carbon Balanced Paper and Print works with the international environmental charity World Land Trust, which uses funds raised through the scheme to protect and restore some of the most threatened and biodiverse-rich areas of forestry in the world. With specific carbon projects in Mexico, Uganda and Guatemala, Carbon Balanced Paper and Print provides funds that protect these habitats and the wildlife within them, while preventing the release of CO2 into the atmosphere through deforestation and forest degradation as well as sequestering carbon from reforestation and regeneration work.
As part of the Carbon Balanced Paper and Print scheme, companies can use the highly trusted and recognised World Land Trust logo on their paper and print to communicate their support and corporate responsibility. The total amount of CO2e balanced and land area preserved and protected is also recorded on a unique certificate, which can be used for environmental reporting and marketing purposes.
