Berrington Press Going Back to the Future
After many years of successfully navigating the highs and lows of commercial printing Berrington Press is looking back to it's past in an inspired transition into the wonderful world of letterpress and intaglio printing.
Still under the guidance of David Wood, who at one point contemplated retirement after 50 years in the trade, found he couldn't give up printing entirely and turned his attention to renovating vintage printing presses in a bid to preserve the craft he had learned many years ago. Three renovated machines later, (Thompson Autoplaten, Vandercook Universal One and a Waite and Savile Die Stamping press) plus an apprentice artisan printer in the form of daughter Sarah, Berrington Press has come full circle.
Boasting an impressive collection of metal and wood letter types as well as monotype ornamental borders and sometimes the use of a photopolymer plate, a substantial resource to work from has been built up. Now with a revived interest in "doing it the old fashioned way" the craft of letterpress printing has been enjoying a marked resurgence in recent years with Berrington Press now in a perfect position to offer the knowledge, craft skill and creativity to produce beautiful, high quality stationery and other associated products using traditional letterpress and intaglio print methods.
Berrington Press has forged a new pathway from its own heritage, a family firm for the future.
