London Business Survey September 2016

The latest CBI/CBRE Business Survey shows strongly, following a period of steady optimism, that optimism for business prospects has dropped to it’s lowest levels since 2008. 

This is having a negative impact on business recruitment plans. Despite this, 93% of the responding businesses think London is a good place or a very good place to do business. 95% cite the cities access to the EU as the capital’s top strength with businesses highlighting that many of their customers, suppliers, and back office functions come from the UK regions and EU countries.

The top five issues of concern for business over the next year are.

Retaining best people

Uncertainty over UK’s role in Europe

Lack of appropriately skilled staff

Reduced consumer demand

The Regulatory pressures.

The survey also included the role and legacy left in London following the 2012 Olympic Games.

71% Improved London’s reputation for hosting major games.

63% Helped act as a catalyst for regeneration and infrastructure investment

55% Increased tourism

20% Attracted new business opportunities

18% Had little or no impact on business in London

10% Strengthened London’s skilled base.
