The Retail Institute on Kano Methodology
Leeds Beckett University's The Retail Institute combines the strengths of academic research with commercial consultancy. The Centre has been established to deliver knowledge, expertise and awareness of new technologies relevant to consumer goods, retailing and the food and drink sectors.
The Retail Institute along with the BPIF recently invited local companies from across the Retail Packaging Supply Chain to Leeds Beckett University for a breakfast seminar that showcased some of the great work it has been doing with industry that could also be applied to their innovation processes.
The session focused on the *Kano methodology, a scientific approach to consumer testing that delves deep into the consumers' mindset, providing a clear understanding of the needs that they can't express themselves. Dr. Dong Hoang and Brett Kelly relayed this story through an example of how we've previously used the methodology to help a global company offer clear on-shelf disruption and develop better products for their consumers.
Following the success of this event, a future breakfast session is being developed and will be announced in due time.
*The Kano model is a theory of product development and customer satisfaction, which classifies customer preferences into five categories.
