Why print apprenticeships work
Here at the BPIF we support apprenticeships all year round and we're proud to be supporting National Apprenticeship Week 2018. To celebrate this and the wide variety of different and interesting print apprenticeships available, we've spoken to several of our apprenticeships to get their take on why print apprenticeships work!
Chloe - Account Executive, Kolorcraft Group
What attracted you to print? / How did you come to work in print?
When I first started looking into apprenticeships I had never really thought about getting involved in print or even heard people mention about working in print.
Then an apprenticeship for Kolorcraft popped up and it was ideal for me. It was a job that involved customer service and admin which is what I was looking for, it was close to where I lived and it was an immediate start.
What has been your greatest challenge?
My greatest challenge is the amount of work and effort I have put in to be where I am today at Kolorcraft. I started out at Kolorcraft as an apprentice performing basic admin work, running labels, paperwork, photocopying and reception duties. After a few months of being at Kolorcraft I became a Trainee Account Executive, where I learnt all about different print processes, different types of materials, how to raise the print job tickets and I eventually started dealing with the clients. I was then promoted to an Account Executive after completing my apprenticeship training, still dealing with clients on a daily basis but with more responsibility to it, as I manage my own jobs through production all the way until it is despatched. I am now on with aiming to be a Senior Account Executive.
What is it you most enjoy about your job?
What I most enjoy about my job is that every day is different, some days I may be raising promotions and other days I may be dealing with the Collate & Pack side of a promotion, but no promotion is the same.
What do you think the benefits of an apprenticeship are over alternative routes?
Benefits of an apprenticeship are that you are on a course that gives you qualifications at the end of it as well as experience.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years' time?
Hopefully a Senior Account Manager.
