Build and maintain a strong HR strategy
To help you through the minefield of policies, legislation and procedures, here are our top ten HR tips.
1. Establish your framework
It's vital for your business that your HR policies are established. Without a framework, you're setting yourself up to fail.
2. Recruitment
Establish the aims and goals of the company before hiring. Have a solid understanding of the type of skills and experience you're looking for in an employee. Use a recommended recruitment consultant. Although they look expensive, getting the right person who stays the course saves money in the long run.
3. Social Media
This is a 21st century movement that's had a huge effect on the way businesses operate, so you need to make sure you're protected against any problems caused by social media.
4. Statutory Rights
Statutory employee rights are constantly evolving, so you need to make sure you're on top of this at all times, otherwise you could be in for a nasty fine and a damaging employment tribunal.
5. Cost Savings
Businesses can become much more efficient by using HR properly, for example by implementing an HR strategy that supports your business goals and ensures they are achieved.
6. Training & Development
HR can help support training and development initiatives by assisting with a training plan, identifying development initiatives, and delivering appropriate workshops.
7. Managing Performance
Business performance can be improved by putting into place an integrated performance management system, which can also be utilised as an employee appraisal system.
8. Legislation Guidance
Your BPIF HR adviser can ensure that all internal HR policies and processes, including your employee handbooks, are kept up to date.
9. Dispute Avoidance and Fair Management
By having BPIF HR support, managers can ensure all procedures and policies are being adhered to, and turn potentially difficult scenarios into a positive ones.
10. Looking After your Staff
Are you taking a chance on your employees' health? Look at providing wellness support and occupational health risk assessments. Rewarding employees fairly is very important for staff retention, and if you don't do this correctly it will be reflected in a high turnover of your workers.
