Birmingham City University students visit Sign & Digital to see their textile designs in action on the Epson stand
Six BA Textile Design students had their designs, produced on Epson dye sublimation printers, made into the polo shirts worn by Epson staff at Sign & Digital.
4 April 2019 - Final year BA Textile Design students from Birmingham City University visited Sign & Digital to see their work in action. They had designed a series of floral polo shirts worn by Epson staff.
“We ran a competition to produce a polo shirt design and the work of six students were selected by Epson,” Says Kelly- Marie Sifleet Printed Textiles Senior Technical Demonstrator. “These students had been part of the Epson hands-on colour workshop which has given them a lot of confidence when using dye sublimation printing technology. We are here at the show and it’s a chance to see the latest developments in the industry.”
Amelia Roe, one of the winners, says: “I liked having the opportunity to work professionally and it was a chance to make things consistent with the Epson brand.”
Isobel Ramsden said: “Making designs that were professionally finished and consistent has been great.”
Eleanor Williams said: “The hands-on colour workshop ensured we really understood the Epson printers and what they were capable of. I use the Epson dye sublimation printers all the time and often combine digital print with other textile processes.”
The other winners were Priti Patel, Ashlie Mills and Amy Prosser.
Heather Kendle, market development manager for Epson Europe, was there to meet Kelly-Marie and her student team. She says: “At Epson we really value our association with education. We want to encourage the next generation of designers and we learn from each other; it is a mutually advantageous partnership.”
In addition to the dye sublimation equipment (SureColor SC-F6200), Epson had on show the hugely successful ten-colour SureColor SC-S80600 signage printer and its four-colour kid brothers, the SureColor SC-60600 and SureColor SC-S40600 as well as a SureColor P-10000 which produces photographic quality prints.
It also showed a range of applications for digital printers, include car wraps, wallpaper, fashion, labels, mats and mugs as well as indoor, outdoor and backlit signage.
