Transcend Packaging champions sustainability on BBC
BPIF member, Transcend Packaging based in Ystrad Mynach in South Wales, was recently featured on the BBC 1 programme The One Show. The firm is one of two suppliers to McDonald's of paper straws, which have become much more popular since the consumer backlash to ‘single use plastic.'
Lorenzo Angelucci, MD at Transcend, said, "Transcend Packaging is proud to be championing the production of eco-friendly paper-based packaging and paper straws in the UK for the food service, food industry and cosmetic industry. Transcend was founded as a leading innovator in the sustainable packaging space to provide a broad range of product options from paper straws to folding cartons and other types of paper-based containers. We have assembled an experienced team of industry experts and packaging specialists who are focused on creating sustainable packaging solutions to help preserve our fragile and plastic-polluted environment, whilst at the same time meeting the needs of our clients and their customers."
Given that McDonald's UK and Ireland use around 1.8m straws per day, the move from plastic to paper has already made a huge difference to the environment as they are also made from PEFC or FSC paper.
Dawn Reid, Regional Director for the BPIF, added, "It is great news that the retail market is embracing changes to their plastic-based products where paper packaging or printed products are more sustainable - both for the environment and parts of our sector."
