30.04.20 – Guidance – Coronavirus Site Operating Procedures

Site Operating Procedures for ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe'

Keeping your business open - the UK government advice is as follows and the specific link to business closures is here.

With the exception of the organisations covered within the above link, in the section on closing certain businesses and venues, the government has not required any other businesses to close - indeed it is important for business and the supply chain to continue.

  • Employers and employees should discuss their working arrangements, and employers should take every possible step to facilitate their employees working from home, including providing suitable IT and equipment to enable remote working.
  • Sometimes this will not be possible, as not everyone can work from home. Certain jobs require people to travel to, from and for their work - for instance if they operate machinery, work in manufacturing, or are delivering front line services.

If you cannot work from home then you can still travel for work purposes, provided you are not showing coronavirus symptoms and neither you nor any of your household are self-isolating. This is consistent with advice from the Chief Medical Officer.

Employers who have people in their offices or onsite should ensure that employees are able to follow Public Health England Guidelines, and it's important to stress that this is in additional to your day-to-day health and safety practice.

The health and safety requirements of any activity should also not be compromised at this time, and if an activity cannot be undertaken safely due to a lack of suitably qualified personnel being available or social distancing being implemented, it should not take place.

We are aware that emergency services are also under great pressure and may not be in a position to respond as quickly as usual. Therefore where ‘High Risk' activities are carried out on site, it's recommended to stand down these activities where possible.

Sites should remind the workforce at every opportunity of the Site Operating Procedures which are aimed at protecting them, their colleagues, their families and the wider population.

If a site is not consistently implementing the measures set out below, it may be required to shut down.
